On 11 January 2007, Andrew McAuley set out on his quest to become the first person to kayak from Australia to New Zealand across one of the wildest and loneliest stretches of ocean on Earth.
On 09 February, New Zealand maritime authorities received his distress call. Having survived a harrowing and torturous 30-days ordeal on his own at sea, conquering monstrous swells and terrifying storms, McAuley lost his life only a day from completing his amazing journey, while on sight of land.
"Solo" is the story of this amazing adventure, of the man and of the people who shared in this project. By looking into the psychological elements surrounding the world of extreme adventurers, the documentary give the audience an rare insight on what it takes to reach new frontiers. It’s the documentary Andrew’s family wanted.
